Parkside Community Working Bee
On Sunday the 17th of November, many of the Parkside families came together with the Parkside staff to transform the over 2’s outdoor area, as well as the Babies sandpit play space. Families and staff collaborated on how to best tackle some of the tasks for the day which included, emptying sand from one sandpit, refilling 2 sandpits, removing old rubbish into the hired skip bin, creating a new mud kitchen, and creating a fairy garden in the old mud kitchen space.
It seemed like a long list of tasks to complete but, as we all know, “Teamwork makes the dream work” and before long, we were in full swing digging, pulling, planting, sweeping, cleaning. You name it, it was being done. It was a day of hard work, laughter, and creativity as everyone contributed ideas to the fairy garden and mud kitchen. One family member even created a new “fruit” section and replanted 3 fruit trees, orange, lemon, and lime, to help them flourish and grow into mature fruit trees that will hopefully give the service an abundance of fruit!
Another parent showed us their secret carpentry talent and was able to rebuild our old rickety mud kitchen bench. While doing this they helped others by cutting pieces of wood, this enabled our Director, Jess, to be able to repair a dolls house for in the fairy garden, too.
At lunch everyone was lucky enough to be able to enjoy some delectable sandwiches donated to the service by Pickle in the Middle on Unley Road, as well as some good ‘ol Aussie snags cooked by our chef, Jade. Once everyone had quenched their thirst and hunger, it wasn’t long before the last of the jobs were finalised and our working bee was complete for the day.
Take a look at the photos and see all the fun that was had.
